The MDSPE Baltimore Chapter will be hosting its annual Holiday Party at the Engineers Club (11 W. Mt. Vernon Place) in conjunction with the Baltimore Monument Lighting on Thursday, December 7. Mingle with members of MDSPE and other local professionals. Enjoy an open bar cocktail reception plus hors d’oeuvres from5:30 to 7:30. Then head outside to enjoy the lighting of the Baltimore Washington Monument, located right out front of the Engineers Club. This outdoor festival features live music, local vendors, and a spectacular fireworks show. Finally, head back inside the Club for a wonderful dinner in the Ball Room (optional).

Andrew Brown vividly remembers watching the drama of the Apollo 13 mission unfold on a movie screen. Two days into its mission, a routine tirring of an oxygen tank ignited damaged wire insulation and triggered an explosion that vented a signifcant portion of the rocket’s oxygen supply into space. The crew was forced to abort plans to land on the moon and NASA Mission Control in Houston had to rapidly develop new plans to bring the damaged craft safely home.
