Wes Guckert, PTP
Chairman & CEO | The Traffic Group, Inc.
MDSPE is honored to celebrate the life and legacy of Wes Guckert with the 2026 Industry Icon Award.
Wes’ professional career spanned more than five decades and was nothing short of extraordinary. A globally respected traffic and transportation planner, he founded The Traffic Group more than 40 years ago. Under his leadership, the firm, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), contributed to nearly 10,000 projects worldwide. Within his industry, Wes was a true leader, widely admired for both his expertise and integrity.
Within Maryland, Wes left his mark. The Traffic Group conducted detailed traffic studies for most all of the casinos in the state, including the largest, MGM National Harbor. He was also a huge proponent of bus rapid transit, or BRT. He and the team at The Traffic Group came up with conceptual design plans for a BRT system in Montgomery County, which would have been the largest system of its kind in the country, and cost a fraction of a light rail systems while also providing the same reduction in traffic.
