MATHCOUNTS

About MATHCOUNTS

Since its creation in 1983, MATHCOUNTS has been the premier nationwide program for middle school mathematics. Its mission is simple: increase enthusiasm for and enhance achievement in middle school mathematics throughout the United States.

In Maryland, the Maryland Society of Professional Engineers (MDSPE) oversees and organizes the Maryland State MATHCOUNTS Competition, while dedicated volunteers lead Chapter Competitions across the state. Together, volunteers, educators, industry sponsors, and the technology community make MATHCOUNTS possible. Below you will find the competition schedule.

Volunteer Opportunities

We need your help to make MATHCOUNTS competitions a success! You don’t need to be a math expert to volunteer — we provide the answers! All we ask is for organized individuals who are ready to help with the following tasks:

  • Scoring Room: Assist in tallying scores for accuracy.
  • Grading Room: Help grade competition papers.
  • Proctoring: Oversee the competition to ensure everything runs smoothly.

If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact Joel Oppenheimer at joel.oppenheimer@stvinc.com. We’ll connect you with the Chapter Coordinator, who will provide all the details you need.

Volunteering for MATHCOUNTS is a rewarding experience where you’ll witness firsthand the enthusiasm and talent of Maryland’s brightest young mathematicians. Join us and make a difference!
