"SOLAR and MORE" Today’s Technology for Energy Efficiency and Going Green
November 15th 6:30pm at the
Silver Spring HiltonWith global warming ever present and appears to be destined as a campaign 2008 issue, our knowledge of available technology, and whatever is attainable in the near and distant future is a must. Germany develops 20% of its energy using solar conversion equipment stimulated by utility purchase agreements and rate structures.
We cannot decide how much to demand form our legislators unless we first have a background in the science and cost effectiveness of the technology. The efficiency of photovoltaics has doubled in the last 20 years, and per unit cost has dropped with increased demand.
But the PV arrays are only one aspect of this presentation. The LEAFHouse entry provides all energy requirements for space and water heating and cooling, home appliances such as those used for cooking, refrigeration, washing and drying clothes, and charging the batteries of an electric car. This is a self-contained house, which is grid connected to sell excess power to the utility.
